What is Phonics?

Phonics involves connecting the SOUNDS of spoken english to the WRITTEN REPRESENTATION (letters). These are formed together to make words.

How do we teach phonics?

We teach phonics using a systematic Synthetic Phonics Programme called
Sounds Write logo

This involves the skills of

BLENDING  - Reading words by breaking them down into units of sounds

SEGMENTING - Spelling words by putting units of sound in the correct sequence

You can find out more by exploring the website https://sounds-write.co.uk/what-is-sounds-write/

How can parents help?

Parents and carers can help their child to read and write by a completing a course delivered by SOUNDS- WRITE. Please click on the link to find out about it.
