Collective Worship


Collective Worship is an important part of our school day. It is usually led by the Head of School, teachers, children and Father Martin. Sometimes, we have visitors who also lead our collective worship. Each term we focus on one of our Christian values and think about how it affects our spirituality as well as our everyday lives. The value is also threaded throughout other areas of school life and can be seen in the class reflective areas.

Year of Prayer

This year we will be focusing on the Year of Prayer. This will give us the opportunity to think about prayer spaces in our school and having the time to reflect, to be peaceful and calm. We are hoping that parents and members of the community will join us in your prayer services throughout the year.The children have already begun their designs for the outside reflective garden space and we are looking forwards to seeing this develop during the year. 

church(1)In collective worship, the children sing songs, listen to stories, reflect, respond and pray. We say the Lord's Prayer as well as our special Peasmarsh Prayer.

Most acts of worship will take place in the Hall and involve the whole school. Worship can take place at any time of the day and may also involve sections of the school or individual classes. The majority of acts of worship will be of a Christian character and will be appropriate to the needs and ages of the children taking part.

The church of St Peters and St Pauls is also a focus for worship. The school community celebrates Christian events and festivals as well as contributing to church displays. 

Collective worship should offer pupils the opportunities to explore and share beliefs; consider the importance of prayer, meditation and silence; consider the relevance of ideas and beliefs to their own lives; think about the needs of others and develop a sense of community; and appreciate the importance of religious beliefs to those who hold them.

It provides a time to celebrate the various achievements of members of the community that are held to be of worth. If collective worship is genuinely to stimulate reflection and growth, it needs to involve all members of the community.

We fulfill our legal obligation to provide collective worship each day whilst also acknowledging the rights of parents to withdraw thier children from the daily act of worship.
